Wentz Jerome Henry Shanaberger III, 33, of Naples, Fla., was killed in Iraq March 24, 2004, when he was ambushed during the investigation of a suspicious vehicle.

He was assigned to the 21st Military Police Co., 16th Military Police Brigade, based at Fort Bragg, N.C.

Fallen MP’s wife accepts posthumous Silver Star
The wife of a military policeman killed in combat in Iraq March 24, 2004 was presented the Silver Star Friday at XVIII Airborne Corps headquarters.

Corey Shanaberger, middle, receives the Silver Star from Lt. Gen. John R. Vines, XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg commander, in honor of her husband, Sgt. 1st Class Wentz J.H. Shanaberger III, who was killed March 24 in Iraq, at XVIII Abn. Corps headquarters Friday. Beside Corey are her mother-in-law Cheryl and father-in-law Wentz J.H. Shanaberger II.
